Who will take responsibility for A No Deal Brexit?.

The 31st of October 2019 is likely to become a date that will remain for ever written into the history of our country. It will be viewed either as the day the Uk was liberated from the tyrannical rule of the E.U, a bit like VE Day or it will be viewed as the day the Uk was relegated from first tier global economy and began a steady decline into something akin to a emerging third world country. The U.K Economy has already begun to shrink. Major manufactures and businesses are re-locating, sterling has taken a hammering and the SNP want another vote on independence, inevitably Ireland will follow. All over the world people are asking the obvious question; why is the Uk committing this act of collective economical suicide? To opt out of the world’s largest trading body, to go it alone and pay tariffs on every single item manufactured in the country and sold in Europe.

Some may point the finger of blame at David Cameron who could be described as being reckless and cavalier with the UK’s economy and global trade position.      There are those who say Teresa May must take the responsibility for failing to negotiate a withdrawal agreement which would satisfy both sides of the house, although, to be blunt, the politicians who failed to support her withdrawal agreement and blocked and thwarted her efforts at every turn should be called upon by the constituents they represent to resign for failing to uphold the wishes of the electorate and failing the country has a whole. Then of course there’s Boris who has made no secret of his overwhelming ambition to become Prime Minister and who in fact became the figurehead of the leave campaign. Claims that savings of £350,000,000 could be made each week by leaving the E.U  coupled with the mis guided belief that we could negotiate a tarif free trade deal which the E.U would be forced to agree to because they need us more than we need them, can only be described has a dangerous kind of logic that could lead the Uk into a economic wilderness lasting a decade.

My own personal view is that ultimately the voters who voted to leave must take the responsibility for the debacle that has become Brexit. We voted to leave the comfort and safety of the E.U. We allowed right wing politicians to stir up a wave of xenophobia, to sour the debate, to pour scorn on the argument to remain branding it as scaremongering. We only looked at what we paid into the E.U and never thought about what we were getting out of the arrangement. Right wing politicians have taken to the podium and spouted racist nonsense about foreigners taking out of the NHS, foreigners abusing the generosity of the tax payers. Certain newspapers have also been an effective tool in promoting these idea’s. But the biggest reason for voting out of the E.U is because British people do not like the idea of foreigners telling them what to do, especially unelected ones. Although Great Britain once ruled a 3rd of the globe through colonialism, force of arms and slavery, there still exist amongst some of its citizen a sense of “we’re better than everybody else and they should be grateful of our leadership”.  As 31st of October approaches the world must be wondering how the Brexit endgame will play out. Despite the bluster and bullying coming out of Downing Street. Talk of removing the back stop and renegotiating the withdrawal agreement or even withholding part of the £39 billion. One can’t help but think it all seems a little ostrich like, almost dilusional and stands little chance of breaking through the cool calm resolve coming out of a United Europe.
